What kind of surfboard is best for Oahu's South Shore?
South Shore summer waves are typically waist to head-high and more mellow than North Shore winter surf. Fish, funboards, and mid-lengths are ideal for generating speed in these conditions. A performance shortboard works well on the bigger south swells that occasionally push overhead.
When does South Shore season start?
South Shore season runs from roughly April through September, with the most consistent swells arriving June through August. Southern hemisphere storms send long-period swells that light up spots like Ala Moana Bowls, Kaisers, and Canoes.
What's a good all-around board for South Shore Oahu?
A mid-length in the 7'0" to 7'6" range or a fish around 5'6" to 6'0" are excellent all-around choices for South Shore conditions. Both paddle easily in smaller surf while still being fun when the swell picks up.
