A funboard is a mid-size surfboard, typically 6'6" to 8 feet long, that combines the easy paddling of a longboard with some of the maneuverability of a shortboard. They're often called "egg" or "hybrid" shapes and are popular with intermediate surfers who want a versatile, fun board for a variety of conditions.
Funboard size depends on your weight and skill level. A 7'0" to 7'6" funboard works well for most intermediate surfers between 140-180 lbs. Heavier or less experienced surfers should go larger (7'6" to 8'0") for extra stability and paddle power.
Funboards tend to be wider and thicker with more rounded outlines, prioritizing stability and ease of use. Mid-lengths are typically more refined in shape with performance-oriented features like narrower tails and sharper rails. Mid-lengths surf more like a stretched shortboard, while funboards feel more like a shrunken longboard.
